The legal framework of Timor-Leste is still under development and while a number of laws have been enacted which relate directly to the enjoyment of human rights standards and the guarantee of good governance, the legal framework remains with a number of gaps which will be gradually developed. Some of the main pieces of legislation related to human rights standards and good governance principles are:

  • Law on Freedom of Assembly and Demonstration
  • Law on Immigration and Asylum
  • Law Against Domestic Violence
  • Criminal Code
  • Criminal Procedure Code
  • Civil Code
  • Labour Law
  • Laws on basic, secondary and higher education
  • Laws relating to the health system and hospitals
  • Law on Water Supply for Public Consumption
  • Administrative Procedure

All Timorese laws can be accessed in Portuguese and English at the Official Government Gazette
