The Ombudsman for Human Rights and Justice has the power to issue legal opinions on drat laws, providing recommendations on how to strengthen drafts to ensure it is in compliance with human rights standards and good governance principles.
The Ombudsman has the power to recommend the adoption of legislation which it considers necessary to further human rights and good governance.
The Ombudsman and its technical staff are regularly invited to participate in working groups for the drafting of relevant laws.
The opinions of the Ombudsman can be submitted in writing to the relevant Government Ministry and/or National Parliament and it may also provide oral briefings in the relevant Parliamentary Commission as part of the legislative making procedure.
