Timor-Leste has ratified the main international human rights treaties.
The Timorese Constitution provides that international treaties shall be an integral part of the national legal framework once the instrument of ratification or accession has been published in the Government Gazette.
There is no need to have a specific law incorporating an international treaty and it is understood that it is directly applicable in the Timorese legal framework.
A list of international human rights treaties ratified by Timor Leste can be found here.
The Ombudsman is empowered to issue reports on Timor-Leste compliance with its international human rights law duties.
