Jakarta, Indonesia, 7 march 2025 – The Director of Investigation of the Ombudsman for Human Rights and Justice (PDHJ), Terensia Nunes Maia, was honoured to participate in the ASEAN-Australia Counter-Terrorism Workshop on Good Practice Approaches for the Rehabilitation and Reintegration of Foreign Terrorist Fighters (FTFs) and Their Families, held on March 6-7, 2025, in Jakarta.
The workshop brought together representatives from ASEAN member states, Timor-Leste, and Australia to discuss best practices in rehabilitation and reintegration strategies for FTFs and their families. Key sessions focused on community-based approaches, psychosocial support, education, legal frameworks, and strategic communication to counter radicalization and ensure successful reintegration. The event also provided an opportunity to share national perspectives and develop collaborative regional solutions.
PDHJ’s participation in this high-level workshop reflects its commitment to human rights-based justice responses in counterterrorism efforts. The insights gained will contribute to strengthening Timor-Leste’s legal and institutional frameworks for rehabilitation and reintegration, reinforcing PDHJ’s role in advocacy, oversight, and the promotion of good governance.
